Periodic Orbits of a Planetoid Passing Close to Two Gravitating Masses
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a study of periodic orbits in the restricted three-body problem in which the small mass passesclose to each of the large masses. The orbits are classified according to the types of motion involved and methodsare given for estimating initial conditions for the various classes of orbit. Some sample orbits, as determined bya digital computer, are presented. U. 5. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE: U B S

Periodic orbits in warped disks
It is often assumed that a warped galaxy can be modeled by a set of rings. This paper verifies numerically the validity of this assumption by the study of periodic orbits populating a heavy self-gravitating warped disk. The phase space structure of a warped model reveals that the circular periodic orbits of a flat disk are transformed in quasi annular periodic orbits which conserve their stabil...
متن کاملOn the bifurcation and Continuation of periodic orbits in the Three Body Problem
We study some new types of bifurcation of periodic orbits in the planar three body problem (TBP) consisting of a heavy body (star) and two bodies of small or negligible mass (planets). When one planet has zero mass, we have the restricted TBP. If the massive planet revolves in a circular orbit around the star, we get the circular restricted model (CRTBP) and if its orbit is elliptic, with eccen...
متن کاملSticking and nonsticking orbits for a two-degree-of-freedom oscillator excited by dry friction and harmonic loading
We consider a system composed of two masses connected by linear springs. One of the masses is in contact with a rough surface. Friction force, with Coulomb’s characteristics, acts between the mass and the surface. Moreover, the mass is also subjected to a harmonic external force. Several periodic orbits are obtained in closed form. A first kind of orbits involves sticking phases: during these p...
متن کاملA pr 2 00 3 Periodic orbits close to elliptic tori and applications to the three - body problem Massimiliano Berti
We prove, under suitable non-resonance and non-degeneracy “twist” conditions, a Birkhoff-Lewis type result showing the existence of infinitely many periodic solutions, with larger and larger minimal period, accumulating onto elliptic invariant tori (of Hamiltonian systems). We prove the applicability of this result to the spatial planetary three-body problem in the small eccentricityinclination...
